III-V Compound Semiconductors
The Nanoscience and Technology Centre is home to the ‘EPSRC National Centre for III-V Technologies’, directed by Professor Peter Houston and Professor Maurice Skolnick, and is Europe’s largest university research centre dedicated to III-V compound semiconductors.
The Centre has a team of 50 research scientists and an extensive range of equipment, including a suite of MOVPE and MBE reactors, electron beam lithography and focused ion beam milling equipment. Research into devices such as lasers, LEDs, solar cells, and radio frequency components has led to achievements such as the world’s highest performance quantum dot telecom laser structure and the world’s first quantum cascade laser grown by MOVPE.
